FSNE

The Food Supplement Nutrition Education Program is Maryland's SNAP-Ed program and employs great nutrition educators for the community. During my time at the Maryland state office, I was tasked with creating various social media content posts for the FSNE accounts. I used evidence based recommendations to write blogs on goal setting, winter-themed Facebook posts on exercise and weight-management, and selected appropriate recipes to supplement the posts. I was able to shadow nutrition educators throughout Maryland. I helped teach a lesson to first and third graders about where food on their plate comes from. One of the most fun experiences was assisting with the apple tastings. Students were able to try apples in three forms: applesauce, apple slices and dried apples. We were also able to help out on a field trip that highlighted whole grains. Students were immersed in learning about nutrition and farm-life during a day of fun learning activities.

Manna Food Center

Manna Food Center's mission is to end hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education and advocacy. I worked alongside the dietitian on staff who is also the director of programs and policy. My projects included:

  • Planning and delivering a nutrition education class on the importance of vegetables

  • Updating perishable food guides for the food center volunteers

  • Creating a box packing guide for clients that only have access to a microwave

  • Creating content for 2 months of the health and wellness calendar

  • Attending community meetings to better understanding the obstacles food-insecure clients face
